Social media

Letter November 23, 2018
Like all things, it is being responsibly used and irresponsibly being misused

LAHORE: We are in the age of social media. Like all things, it is being responsibly used and irresponsibly being misused. We also tend to see social media as something new, though it is not an entirely new thing. Before the advent of this mode of media we had it in another form. The difference is that now it has been brought on the internet. Formerly people used to, and still do, talk about current issues and matters in cafes, tea stalls, public squares, buses and trains and bazaars. Now they exchange views on social media. The former is generally known as bazaar gossip. Sometimes bazaar gossips found their way even into history books. Sometimes bazaar gossips have had significant social and political consequences.
