Crimes against women

Letter November 19, 2018
In the past, stage actresses and dancers have met a similar fate

KARACHI: Recently, a stage dancer was shot dead by one of her potential suitors in Peshawar. This is not the first incident in K-P province where a female dancer has been shot dead by a man. In the past, stage actresses and dancers have met a similar fate. Had the police taken appropriate action in the very first case, incidents like these could have been avoided. In most such cases, the police side with the culprits and the victims often fail to secure the necessary legal help.

Despite the police reforms and improved governance in the province, a lot still needs to be done to curb such crimes. Female victims and their families need to have access to legal help and justice as without which to curtail crimes against women in the country will remain a dream.
