Will the provincial government continue with its masterly inaction as it is doing over other pressing issues?
KARACHI: If we, the Karachiites, thought that smog was an issue concerning Punjab, especially Lahore, then we have been proven wrong. This year just at the onset of winter in November, Karachi is experiencing smog — a name given to fog covered with smoke that usually stems from burning of residue of crops in villages.
Considering the fact that there is not much agricultural activity in and around the city, the smog surely is the result of many industries set up in the city without proper environmental safety measures. The ever-increasing number of small vehicles is also one of the causes of smog. A city where there is no check on plying smoke-emitting vehicles only smog can be expected.
Will the provincial government take action to ensure that smog does not become a frequent occurrence, or will it continue with its masterly inaction as it is doing over other pressing issues?
