A growing need to for traffic regulations
LAHORE: Congratulations and heaps of praise for Akbar Nasir Khan on his E-challan article in this paper published on November 10. The piece must surely rank foremost among the self-praise masterpieces that litter our political and bureaucratic wilderness. The facts on Lahore traffic paint a decidedly dismal picture compared to Mr Khan’s strokes of self-admiration. Thousands of motorcyclists drive recklessly without driving licences, lights or indicators; many put their own lives at risk and those of others by attempting new world records of how many can be accommodated on a two-wheeler. Sheer aggression, evil lane changes and turns, hair whisker tailing (the list goes on) are the hallmarks of Lahore’s traffic mayhem. Not one of these murderous moves is the target of these E-challans.
May I invite Mr Khan to ride with me and observe the reality of Lahore’s traffic; perhaps the truth lies a long way from his office or rear seat if he is chauffer driven.
