The levels at which the armed forces are deployed currently are a massive drain on the national economy.
MANAMA, BAHRAIN: Feisal Naqvi’s article of June 7 titled “The price of sovereignty” is brilliant. We need to change our security paradigm. Why does Pakistan need such a large standing army when we have nuclear weapons? Clearly, the levels at which the armed forces are deployed currently are a massive drain on the national economy. Clearly, if we have the nuclear option, we should be able to, correspondingly, reduce the size of our standing army. That way we can free up resources for health and education.
