Life comes to a halt

Letter November 05, 2018
One need not describe how the nation reacted to the court verdict on Aasia Bibi

KARACHI: The Christian woman, Aasia Bibi, was acquitted of blasphemy charge a few days ago. She spent eight years in prison. One need not describe how the nation reacted to the court verdict. Needless to mention that everyday life came to a halt and people stayed indoors. Blocked roads with tyres burning on them and vandalisation of public property are a sight that the country has witnessed many times. Yet again, a deal has been struck between the protestors and the government, unaware of it are those who bear the brunt of most of it. A fruit vendor losing his cart to the anger of protestors, somebody’s loved one dying in an ambulance as there are no way to reach to a hospital. These are some of the serious problems that people have to face during protests.
