
Diabetes mellitus and hypertension are the leading causes of kidney failure
TURBAT: Kidney failure means a complete or partial failure of kidneys to function. Diabetes mellitus and hypertension are the leading causes of kidney failure. In certain cases, sudden interruption in the blood supply to kidney and a drug overdose may also result in kidney failure.
In Pakistan, kidney diseases cause an approximately 20,000 deaths per year, making the country rank eight in the world with kidney diseases. Chronic kidney disease is rapidly growing in Pakistan.
The main symptom of kidney failure is the high level of urea and other wastes in blood, which can result in vomiting, nausea, weight loss, frequent urination and blood urine. Excess fluids in body may also cause swelling of legs, feet and face and shortness of breath. If any of these symptoms are identified, one should consult a doctor immediately.
