Protecting one’s culture

Letter November 01, 2018
Modern technology makes it easy for our young generation to follow unhealthy trends, get influenced

KARACHI: In the era of media and technology the geographical distance between regions has nearly vanished. This of course has its benefits alongside the adverse effect on various cultures and the blurring of lines between that differentiate cultures from each other. The modern technology makes it too easy for our young generation to follow often the unhealthy trends while easily getting influenced by content they have exposure to.

We must remember that the perseverance of our Islamic culture was one of the fundamental objectives for creation of Pakistan and the ideology behind the creation of this state.

One way to protect our own culture is to monitor the entertainment media and keeping check on what is being shown in our dramas, films and even products advertisements. But these measures will be insufficient because of the presence of social media hence the responsibility lies with the parents to make the younger generation aware of the beauty and the importance of its own culture and values.
