Vanishing public transport

Letter October 30, 2018
Our politicians chant the merits of democracy day in and day out

KARACHI: Perhaps Pakistan is among one of the few countries of the world where travelling by buses is looked down upon. In Karachi, public transport buses are fast vanishing. People are buying cars and motorcycles thereby increasing pollution and congestion on the roads. Our politicians chant the merits of democracy day in and day out. Democracy is by the people, for the people and God knows how many prepositions it carries. But the people under ‘their own rule’ have only to suffer. How to describe our representatives and this kind of ‘democracy?’
