Rising house prices, rents

In Pakistan’s commercial hub, Karachi, house prices have reached a new high

KARACHI: At a time when the government is launching its housing scheme that would benefit the masses, especially those who from the underprivileged class, it should also look into the enormous prices real estate giants in metropolitan cities charge to rent a house.

In Pakistan’s commercial hub, Karachi, house prices have reached a new high almost making it impossible for people to buy or rent houses. Irrespective of the area one wants to rent a house in, the rent for even a studio apartment is more than Rs20,000 whereas the salaries one gets are constant. In some cases, employers have not given any increments even in the past five years.

It is unfair that one has to pay increasing rent rates while the salary stays the same.

Both the federal and provincial government should devise a plan to keep house rents affordable for the salaried class and employers give employees their due increments.
