Nowadays the exercise of parental authority has become undeniably difficult
TERUEL, SPAIN: It is often said that some parents tend to disengage from their children’s education. This translates into ‘giving up’ or abandoning the role of parents.
The exercise of parental authority tends to encounter various difficulties, whether it is due to a parent’s personality traits (eg, lack of patience and kind behaviour) or due to their child’s capabilities. However, nowadays it is notably societal pressures that tend to have a stronger influence.
The following are examples of factors that influence a parent-child relationship in a negative manner, the behaviour of other parents; the lack of positive external influence; uncertainty of conduct; the confusion between tolerance and compassion and a lot of other factors often ruin what’s meant to be a beautiful equation between the two.
Are all environmental influences negative? Of course, not.
With the ever-increasing number of external influences in the form of electronic media and many others, it is important that the parents are informed and made aware of rightful parenting, more importantly of how to bond with the children. Spending more time isn’t the trick, but spending meaningful time with one’s children is.
Nowadays the exercise of parental authority has become undeniably difficult. This is why it is even more important to reflect upon the upbringing of our children and do it the right way.
