The military has brought about remarkable change in Waziristan and adjoining areas
KARACHI: Civil-military ties and the role of the two in the development of the country has remained a matter of debate for a long time. Almost every citizen picks a side in the debate giving historical references of as to how the country has thrived under the rule of the two. However, if civilian governments are credited for the good the democratic rule brings into the picture, the military’s rule too has had its positive points. There’s no denying the fact that Pakistan’s best economic progress has taken place under military regimes. Further, the armed forces have served the nation in the best of its interest.
From the wars fought in the past, to the constant belligerence from hostile neighbours, the armed forces have remained undeterred even in the face of the worst of crises.
If we are living with peace what is the reason behind it? The men on the borders. The military has brought about remarkable change in Waziristan and adjoining areas, fighting against the Taliban and other militant groups. Even today the military stands like an iron wall supporting the rather fragile government and governance structure of the country.
