Former inspector general of the K-P police has been posted as an adviser to the Punjab government
LAHORE: For the past seventy years we have been hearing claims of change, prosperity and what not. But, unfortunately, so far such claims have proved only empty rhetoric. The current prime minister looks so busy in making policies, but what he had been preaching about for the last several years is different from the policies his government has embarked on as of now.
Former inspector general of the K-P police, who transformed the KP’s police department into a model to be emulated, has been posted as an adviser to the Punjab government; he later resigned claiming that the police department in the province is highly politicised and cannot be separated from political influence. As of now, not enough satisfying explanation has been given in this regard by the information minister or any other government official.
Depoliticisation doesn’t seem to be happening here. Can we say that it is the corrupt structure and the rule of the feudal lords that are above all and most importantly the law, repeatedly failed by our incompetent rulers. We too as public maintain our legacy of carrying the same forward.
The finance minister too is trying his hands on fixing the wrong yet not much has come out other than the recruiting of advisers, aides and new committees. The problems and the solution obviously go beyond banning tea and sandwiches at meetings. The austerity drive is laudable but unfortunately relying solely on it will lead nowhere.
Furthermore, the development policies and the accountability process initiated are commendable and their effective implementation will lead to prosperity.
Now is the time to catch those big fishes that have dirtied the system for everyone. The government must go ahead with the good that it is doing, but must also not hide what it is incapable to do by blaming the past administrations or taking minuscule steps that have no substantial results in the long run. As no later than the next five years, the PTI too shall be blamed for all the same reasons.
