SHIKARPUR: The tall and laudable claims of Imran Khan have finally faded into harsh reality. The decision to approach the International Monetary Fund for a bailout package has triggered a debate in the print, electronic and social media. The main highlight however remains the Kaptaan’s reported statement that he would “prefer suicide over approaching IMF.”
The bailout will make life for the common people miserable. The coalition government headed by Imran Khan has claimed that it has gone to the IMF due to the critical economic situation: balance-of-payments problem, budget deficit, reckless imports and declining exports during the Nawaz government. Pakistan has so far sought 21 IMF bailouts since 1958, 14 of which have been taken since 1980.
Imran Khan, who tried to secure his regime from the IMF, has finally knocked at their door for a bailout programme. Now it seems that the PTI would now find it even harder to fulfil its promise of providing millions of jobs and homes to Pakistani.
