Unhealthy food

Letter October 10, 2018
The measure cannot be implemented all at once but little by little the desired results can be achieved

LAHORE: A couple of years back, provincial authorities in Punjab banned consumption of junk food in schools across the province in view of the harmful impact of junk food on the health of the young. Unfortunately, still at many schools in the province and other parts of the country children are seen consuming junk food during the recess hours. The measure cannot be implemented all at once but little by little the desired results can be achieved. Parents too should discourage their children from consuming such food items.

Moreover, according to researches junk food has been proven to induce anxiety and aggressive behaviour among children. Simultaneously, it also increases the risk of diabetes, heart diseases and obesity. It is also important to control the rapidly sprouting junk food industry which is actually a consequence of high demand for such items.
