The local government authorities should give serious attention to this problem and take immediate action
KARACHI: We live in Karachi where the incidence of diseases is on the rise owing to poor sanitation system. This is a serious issue indeed. Previously, in our area the collection of garbage was scheduled for every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday, while fumigation took place once a month. However, for the past two months the garbage and the fumigation trucks haven’t even crossed our residential area.
As a result, garbage has collected to a level that looks like a small hill. This has given way to a lot of insects such as mosquitoes and flies, and has also become a breeding place for maggots.
What is worse is that the garbage is emitting a foul smell, making it hard for people to breathe. On top of that, no fumigation for over two months is bound to give way illnesses such as, malaria. Particularly, the lives of little children are clearly at a risk.
The local government authorities should give serious attention to this problem and take immediate action.
I fail to comprehend why he authorities are keeping the city dirty, though cleanliness and an efficient sanitation system are so essential. If things are left unattended as they are I am afraid the city could experience various epidemics.
