Polio cases are finally seeing an end in Pakistan with almost 98% of the country being polio-free
ABSOR, TURBAT: Polio cases are finally seeing an end in Pakistan with almost 98% of the country being polio-free. Such an achievement is commendable. However, a recent news report mentioned that the need to work harder is still present, especially when it comes to protecting the polio workers.
Two polio workers were manhandled in Khuda Ki Basti area in Kotri over administration of polio drops to a child. Although we are quite close to seeing a polio-free Pakistan, we need to collectively raise our voice against such attacks and bring them on the forefront.
It is pertinent to note here that it is not the first time such an incident has occurred. Previously too, polio workers have been targeted — beaten and in some instances even killed.
To stop these senseless acts and to eradicate polio it is important to earn back the trust of the local communities and the populace of those areas from where most polio cases are reported in the country. This move will not only help in eradicating polio but will also provide polio teams a safe environment to work in.
