Lost opportunity for peace

Pakistan is ready to give a befitting reply to any misadventure

HYDERABAD: After ages, India and Pakistan had a good opportunity to embark on positive dialogue. But India went back on its words, citing the recent assault on an Indian soldier, which New Delhi claims was carried out by Pakistan, as the reason to cancel the meeting it had agreed upon initially.

Imran Khan in his victory speech had clearly mentioned that his government is ready for bilateral talks with India provided New Delhi agrees to resume peaceful negotiations. But now the Modi government has declined the opportunity and a war of words has started at both ends.

Indian Army Chief General Bipin Rawat recently said that India is inclined to launch a surgical strike against terrorists in Pakistan and in response to his reckless remarks ISPR Director General Major General Ghafoor stated that Pakistan’s desire for peace should not be mistaken for weakness.

Pakistan is ready to give a befitting reply to any misadventure and has warned India of grave military repercussions.

India is currently facing huge scandals at its own soil that the Modi government is involved in and hence, its recent comment about Pakistan comes only as a cover for those scandals. An attempt to divert the public attention to Pakistan.

However, whether that was indeed the intention, it is unfortunate that an opportunity for peace has been squandered.
