Lack of basic facilities at college

Letter September 29, 2018
Government Girls Degree College in Turbat lacks essential facilities such as qualified teachers

TURBAT: Government Girls Degree College in Turbat lacks essential facilities such as qualified teachers to continue its undergraduate BS programme. As the enrolment of students increases, many are even compelled to attend classes in a laboratory, owing to the lack of classrooms. This laboratory isn’t sufficient to accommodate a large number of students.

Students can be productive if they are provided an environment conducive to learning. But this isn’t happening and a plethora of issues are creating  obstacles in the way of learning.

Not only do we not have qualified teachers we also have no teachers to teach compulsory subjects such as mathematics. As a result, students come to the college only to have no classes owing to the lack of teachers.

Owing to these issues, it is increasingly becoming difficult for the college to continue the BS programme. It is hence, advisable for them to convert the BS programme into BA, which is also shorter in duration. A BS degree requires four years of education, whereas a BA requires only two years.

Instead of just inaugurating new academic institutions, the government needs to pay heed to the existing ones first.
