Month of Muharram marks the beginning of the new Islamic lunar calendar
GHOTKI: The month of Muharram marks the beginning of the new Islamic lunar calendar. The month is one of the most sacred months in the light of Islamic teachings when Muslims keep fasts on the days leading to the day of Aashura. The 10th of Muharram was the day on which Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA), the Grandson of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), his family members and his many companions were martyred at Karbala. Since then, Muharram is observed in commemoration of the great sacrifice which he and his companions made for the sake of Islam, the right way. There are a variety of lessons that Muslims can learn from the incident of Karbala. The foremost are never to bow before the forces of evil and uphold truth and the right way even at the cost of one’s life.
Also, the incident of Karbala is an excellent example for all those who claim to love Almighty Allah. Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) sacrificed his life and those of his family members and companions and even the life of his six- month-old son, Hazrat Ali Asghar (RA), at Karbala. It shows that those who love Allah truly, don’t just love Him in words, rather they love Him for all they have and when the time comes they are willing to sacrifice all they have, their life and the lives of their loved ones for the sake of Allah.
