I think pornography is a red herring.
BOURNEMOUTH, UK: This is with reference to Jahanzaib Haque’s article of May 30 titled “Porn equals rape?”. I think pornography is a red herring. The trouble is that men have, through the ages and in every culture, assumed they can do with women what they like. Unfortunately, this is further reinforced by not just cultural norms but religion as well. It is this kind of degrading view of women that first needs to be replaced.
It is depressing that even within Hindu cultures, women are gang raped by the village as a punishment — something that has passed on into Pakistani (village) society without so much as a whimper from the wretched fundamentalists and mullahs — who are otherwise capable of being bellicose on just about everything else.
