There are many ghost schools in the province of Balochistan
TURBAT: There are many ghost schools in the province of Balochistan, mainly because teachers do not bother to show up to teach. In fact, recently Education Minister of Balochistan Shafiq Ahmed Khan disclosed that there were 3,500 ghost schools in the province. A survey conducted by the education department quoted the minister as saying that these schools were open only during examinations.
According to Article 25-A of the Constitution, free and compulsory education is mandatory for all children between the age of five and 16. But unfortunately, the state has failed to implement the said provision of the Constitution in true spirit as Balochistan has been badly governed for decades, and as a result of which the literacy rate in the province has gone down.
All that the provincial government does is raise political slogans of promoting education and bringing about reforms before the elections and once they are elected they do nothing to better the situation.
Therefore, many children in Balochistan are uneducated, and quit their dreams and desires once they are compelled to become child labour to feed their families. Thus, the government of Balochistan should sort out the issue as soon as possible.
