2.2 million abortions are carried out every year in the country
MULTAN: As per the recent report of the United Nations Population Fund in Pakistan, 2.2 million abortions are carried out every year in the country. Abortions and use of birth control methods is another taboo in the country, a topic that the majority tends to avoid and shy away from. However, in recent times the need for easy access to contraceptives has doubled compared to what it was a year ago.
Furthermore, legislation on abortion too is ambiguous in this context, with women still not being given the right to choose for themselves.
The government must take up the issue and enact clear laws on abortion and availability of contraceptives. Birth control measures are important to arrest the unmanageable growth in population.
