SHIKARPUR: August 14 is the day of great pride for Pakistanis as they celebrate the country’s Independence Day. Undoubtedly, Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah made tireless efforts for the creation of a Muslim homeland in the subcontinent. He was really of a pure democratic mind. In early 1930s and 1940s, he was known as a revolutionary for Muslims as he strongly stood for the Two-Nation theory.
His ideas and policies were to strengthen democracy in Pakistan. But unfortunately, Pakistan has not yet fulfilled the dream of our Quaid.
History shows that Pakistan has seen more years under dictatorship than democracy. Though, it was only one true leader who wanted to strengthen democracy — Zulfqar Ali Bhutto. But he was tortured and sentenced to death by a dictator.
Currently, Imran Khan’s policies are as relevant as the Quaid’s. Khan wants to build strong and stable institutions in the country, which will result in strengthening democracy. The country hopes for the best under Khan’s leadership.
