Tourism needs govt’s attention

Letter August 12, 2018
Pakistan too can benefit from tourism only if the authorities concerned spend their time and effort

KARACHI: Summers around the world are known for tourism as many families plan trips in beautiful locations to spend their holidays. Pakistan too can benefit from tourism only if the authorities concerned spend their time and effort to maintain our country’s many beautiful landscapes.

Our northern areas and the Swat Valley are no less than the picturesque Switzerland. Only if we can market them well, we will be able to earn huge tourism revenues. Over the past few years, the threat of terrorism in the country has also been reduced. It is time we made most of this peace in the country and gave time and effort to promoting our beautiful locations.

To begin with, we should first start a campaign to clean these locations. For instance, domestic and local tourists visit the Swat Valley in large numbers. But blue water lakes of the Valley are now covered with filth. We should hold drives to clean these places. Next we should promote them by taking advantage of social media platforms. Put up pictures and videos that capture the scenic beauty of our cities.

Pakistan too can become a tourist attraction only if we try to promote our country with dedication. The government should pay the required attention to the tourism sector as it has a great potential to bring in the precious foreign exchange and increase job opportunities.
