12 schools in Gilgit-Baltistan’s Diamer district were set ablaze on Thursday night
ISLAMABAD : The news of 12 schools in Gilgit-Baltistan’s Diamer district being set ablaze on Thursday night by unidentified persons only goes to show that extremists are well aware of the power of education and are bent on diminishing just that. What is worse is that almost half of the schools that were burnt were all-girls institutions.
Time and again girls’ academic institutions in the country have been attacked with the intention of stopping girls from getting an education. Such a mindset has not only created fear among the masses but has also pushed girls into confinement, as a lack of education restricts them from living fulfilling independent lives.
While it is important to arrest the culprits, it is equally important to ensure that such acts of terror do not take place in the future. And for that pro-education awareness campaigns for girls and boys both should be held across the country.
