LAHORE: What does one make of the detention of a female lecturer by the Islamabad police after she reportedly questioned a serving army major for reckless driving? The poor woman was locked up for the night and when the police were questioned they could give no reasonable explanation. According to various reports on the matter, the military police were called in, presumably to ensure that the police would do what the army officer wanted.
The only question arising in mind is that if a major, whose rank one thought was junior and on which rank most army officers retire, was so powerful, what about those in higher ranks? How would they treat/see civilians?
