Legislation alone isn’t enough

KARACHI: The recent incident of the rape of a goat in India by eight men sheds light upon how unsafe the country is for women when even animals are being preyed upon. With over hundreds of rape and sex abuse cases reported in a year, the legislation against the crime has remained purposeless. Women are as exposed as ever to molestation and rape.

Further, given the extent to which such heinous crime is rampant in India, legislation alone might not do, particularly in a society whose justice system is tainted by male dominance and lack of empathy for its female members.
