Human trafficking in its various forms is rampant in both the developed and the underdeveloped world

HYDERABAD: Human trafficking in its various forms is rampant in both the developed and the underdeveloped world. Human rights agencies continue to stress upon the governments of these countries to take necessary steps to curb illegal human trade, yet the web of human traffickers is strong enough to be wiped out within a short span of time.

According to a report by Unicef, 25 per cent of the victims of human trafficking are children, and unfortunately in most of the cases having their family members involved. As dreadful as it is, selling children for money to traffickers is common in countries having extreme levels of poverty.

Therefore only action against the trafficking groups will prove ineffective. This should be combined with effective efforts to remove the root cause that leads poor people to sell their own offspring.
