Emergence of modest fashion

Letter July 24, 2018
The Modest Movement’ first became noticeable when many international brands released special Ramazan collections

LAHORE: The fashion industry and fashion labels never fail to impress the fashion forward with their designing innovation. However, in the past few years there has been an emergence of modest fashion. ‘The Modest Movement’, as many designers call it, first became noticeable when many international brands released special Ramazan collections, timed to coincide with the holy month. ‘The Modest Movement’ has taken over the industry, experimenting with collections that cater to women that like being fashionable while keeping up with their religious values. Over the years, more so now than ever, women from various faiths have been adorning the Islamic collections for their newness and variety of designs. A decade ago, this ‘movement’ may have been termed oppressive and degrading towards Muslims. However, this is no longer the situation as the mainstream designers are championing modest fashion as the ‘go to’ look. ‘The Modest Movement’ comes as a renewed sense of style, choice, and confidence for women who have been ignored by the fashion industry for decades.
