LAHORE: Every year Pakistani universities produce thousands of graduates in various disciplines. These graduates then embark on their quest for jobs. There’s a very small number of these graduates who pursue further education. This is because most of the graduates come from middle class who need jobs to support themselves and their families.
As a matter of fact, among those who enter the job market or try to find that either their qualifications are not up to the demands of the job market or they get low-paid jobs which is not commensurate with their capabilities for the acquisition of which they have burnt the proverbial midnight oil. Therefore, it is for the government and the industry to promote acquisition of skills that is in line with modern times and technological advancement.
Now the situation in Pakistan is that those who are called educated are badly educated, that is, they are near-illiterate. The present education system is producing either badly educated or half-educated young men and young women. Furthermore, most young people and even those who are mature think that education stops with the acquisition of a paper degree. This is a grave issue that needs urgent and sincere attention of the government.
