WhatsApps’ fake news-induce incidents in India explain the consequences of providing technology to illiterate masses
ISLAMABAD: WhatsApps’ fake news-induced deadly incidents in India well explain the consequences of providing technology to illiterate masses without educating them on its benefits and dangers. A few years ago cellular companies in Pakistan started e-learning programmes for schools in remote regions of the country. While no significant progress has been noticed in the literacy rate particularly due to technological methods of teaching, these villagers have only learnt to easily access online obscene content. Moreover, child pornography too has become more prevalent due to easy access to technology.
So what is needed is to sensitise the common people about the positive and negative aspects of new technologies.
