LAHORE: The Chief Justice of Pakistan has donated Rs1 million for the construction of a dam in the country, implying consensus among the stakeholders over the matter of looming water crisis in the country. Indeed, the CJP deserves appreciation over his intent and effort in doing his share towards a national cause. But can the honourable Chief Justice donate the much-needed political will to those same stakeholders?
Generations have witnessed disagreements and disputes over the politically controversial issue of dams in Pakistan. Though all the parties have agreed on the importance of having dams, they have failed to reach consensus on the issue. Often building dams has held prominence in election agenda of parties, however, only till the time they have gotten elected to power.
Needless to mention, funds and donations will never serve the purpose in the absence of consensus over the issue.
