Admonish the wrongdoer

A renowned educational institution of Karachi has let one of his faculty members quietly leave the country

KARACHI: Whenever the victims of harassment are encouraged to raise their voice against the ordeal they have gone through, it is important that they are heard and not compelled into silence. It also requires that the perpetrator or the culprit is reprimanded so that the former is encouraged for coming forward and the latter discouraged for their inappropriate behaviour.

However, it is shocking to know that a renowned educational institution of Karachi has let one of his faculty members quietly leave the country despite having substantial evidence of his inappropriate behaviour towards his students. This action of the university administration is rather a message to numerous other students to remain silent who might have possibly faced harassment at the hands of the said teacher. Moreover, fight against workplace harassment will fail to serve purpose if those having the power to take action against a culprit will choose to remain silent while protecting and covering a wrong deed.
