Hoping to be heard

Letter June 26, 2018
Forced disappearances are yet another blot on the face of the law that has only undermined the trust of citizens

ISLAMABAD: What’s different this time around is the zeal with which the judiciary has yet again taken it upon itself to hear and address the grievances of those whose beloved have gone missing at the hands of the agencies. Forced disappearances are yet another blot on the face of the law that has only undermined the trust of citizens.

Moreover, the practice has induced fear among our compatriots to the extent where one would rather try their best not to approach security personnel, no matter how dire the need is. As cases pertaining to fake encounters, extrajudicial killings and forced abductions have long been heard in various courts of the country, it can be only hoped that this time the hue and cry of the thousands would not go in vain.
