International Widow’s Day

Letter June 24, 2018
Widows in the absence of a guardian are pushed towards an unstable lifestyle

MULTAN: On June 23rd, the world observed International Widow’s Day to mark and reiterate the aim of inclusion of widows in social, economic and political realms of society. Women are often sidelined when their spouses pass away and sometimes stripped of their status entitling them to live a normal life like any other individual. Such is not the case only in Pakistan but in societies of most South Asian and African countries.

Hence, widows in the absence of a guardian are pushed towards an unstable lifestyle while they still have the ability to sustain and maintain a far better lifestyle for themselves. It is important for widows to live their lives freely and as per their will as they make contribution of their skills and expertise for economic development and growth.
