In a tweet Shehbaz Sharif said if US and N Korea can make peace, then India and Pakistan should follow suit
KARACHI: Former chief minister of Punjab Shehbaz Sharif took to the micro-blogging site Twitter to give his two cents on the historic North Korea-US summit held on June 12th. In a three-part tweet Shehbaz Sharif said that the two nations, Pakistan and India, had been at odds ever since the Korean War and hence if years later in 2018 the US and North Korea can work towards having a cordial relationship and make peace with one another, the neighbouring countries should also follow suit.
While one may often have contentions with Mr Shehbaz’s views, we cannot deny that the former CM has a point to make. Tensions between India and Pakistan have only brought more trouble to the two nations and its peoples than anything substantial. If the civil and military leadership of the two neighbours decide to put everything behind and start afresh not only would it benefit the nationals of the two countries but will also prove to be beneficial for the whole region.
Pakistan has in fact time and again shown its interest in mending relations and now it’s time that Prime Minister Modi and his government realised that to achieve peace in Kashmir and for the betterment of India’s economy it needs to shake hands with the Pakistani leadership. War does no one favours anyone while peace has long-lasting effects.
