Doublespeak allows to monopolise security and foreign affairs of the nation under the guise of national security.
LONDON: This is with reference to Ejaz Haider’s article of May 20 titled “Let’s dispense with our doublespeak on drones”.
This doublespeak is convenient for all Pakistani stakeholders except for the people of the country. The politicians indulge this doublespeak because it shifts focus away from their responsibility to govern, and shifts the political debate towards anti-Americanism and issues of sovereignty. The military indulges in the doublespeak because it saves them from diverting further resources towards the eastern border.
It allows them to monopolise security and foreign affairs of the nation under the guise of ‘national security’. The powers that be should state clearly what’s going on and they should also be held accountable for their actions.
