Another milestone

Letter June 02, 2018
The baton of democracy will be passed over to the third consecutive civilian government in about 60 days

ISLAMABAD: With the dissolution of all provincial and federal governments on May 31st and the interim set-up taking over, Pakistan has reached another milestone as the country’s second successive government has completed its tenure. The baton of democracy will be passed over to the third consecutive civilian government in about 60 days. And that in itself is a historical achievement.

For all the political gurus and self-proclaimed analysts, the completion of the PML-N’s tenure is perhaps a bitter pill to swallow, as many since the very beginning of their tenure made tall claims about a military coup or  fresh elections. In fact, drawing room talks in many households also revolved around ‘the sudden end of the PML-N government’ that of course never quite happened.

However, in spite of the glitches and ups and downs the country experienced in the last five years, citizens should take pride in seeing democracy succeed once again.
