PESHAWAR: A couple of days back, a teenage mother in Charsadda was brutally killed by her in-laws for not being able to bear a male offspring for her in-laws. The girl, only 17 years of age, was married to a 50-year-old man. This particular incident highlights double crimes. It is not only a case of an underage illegal marriage but also a murder in the name of honour, as has been stated in the news story. Even more shocking is the local police’s refusal to take action against the killers, implying that the region does not fall under its jurisdiction.
Charsadda is a district in K-P province, hence if not the police then the provincial government or the local courts can take a suo-motu notice and order arrest of the family.
