Is the ECP to blame?

Letter June 01, 2018
Only the election commission will be held responsible for any delay

KARACHI: Given the pace at which procedural workings are moving forward it is most likely that either the general elections will be delayed or be conducted at the presidentially approved a date in the month of July most of such workings will be ignored or be done perfunctorily. It took the prime minister and the Opposition Leader in the National Assembly over two weeks to decide on a name for the caretaker PM. Now the provinces too are stuck in the rut in respect of the issue. Moreover, the Islamabad High Court is declaring the new delimitation decided by the Election Commission of Pakistan after the recent census void one after the other.

Either way, only the election commission will be held responsible for any delay as it was the ECP which in the first place should have carried out the delimitation exercise in a timely manner or else should not have recommended a date in July for polls.
