Not everything is wrong about NGOs

Letter May 13, 2018
‘Thirteen years later’, highlights where an NGO has delivered more than what a government-run programme

ISLAMABAD: While the bad mainly catches the spotlight on its own, the good often needs to be brought to the attention of many. In case of International non-governmental organisations (INGOs) and non-governmental organisations (NGOs), the government recently banned many from working in the country on the pretext of the social welfare bodies engaging in an anti-state agenda. This could possibly be true in case of few, but certainly not all of those working in Pakistan. An article published in this daily, titled ‘Thirteen years later’, highlights a similar case, where a non-governmental organisation has delivered more than what a government-run initiative could have done in decades.

Thus, one can only hope that the government will develop an exercise to scrutnise the operations of NGOs and INGOs working in the country and initiate action only against those found to be having malicious conduct.
