The positive side

Letter May 13, 2018
Pakistan has had and continues to attract hoards of tourists every year

LAHORE: It is elating to read about the travelogues of people from the other side of the equator who mostly perceive this part as nothing but a war-ravaged, culturally restrictive and an unwelcoming geography of the world’s landscape. The opinion piece by Eva zu Beck in The Express Tribune is certainly one among many where a Westerner could not help but instantly fall in love, praise the scenic beauty and the loving and warm embrace of the Pakistani people. On the other hand, equally disappointing is the opinion of those countrymen who, like many Europeans or Westerners, have never been to the northern regions of Pakistan, as to them the security situation is highly volatile and sensitive with more chances of being blown away in bomb attacks or gunfire.

Amusingly, without much effort of the government here and the local populace, Pakistan has had and continues to attract hoards of tourists every year, travelogues of many of whom frequently make it to the media. In fact, promoting tourism can bring a lot more to Pakistan only if the government cares enough to run tourism campaigns like other South Asian states, particularly India and Sri Lanka.
