The issue of question paper leaks continues to haunt us
KARACHI: Every year there is a routine notification about zero tolerance for cheating and introducing foolproof measures in the examinations. Yet the issue of question paper leaks continues to haunt us.
It seems to have settled itself into the core of our education system. For students who have been cramming hard for the exams, paper leaks and other forms of malpractices are a major stumbling block. It causes unnecessary anxiety and fuels enough tension to affect their grades even though the steps taken to prevent question leaks, including social media surveillance and better security around exam centres, are useful.
The environment of the examination centres is particularly unhealthy as it disturbs the students as well as their parents standing out. The students remain for the most part deprived of electricity and cold drinking water as the power utility continues to punish them with power cuts.
Students are sweating and struggling to concentrate on their exam papers. And somehow it results in bad grades. Why do the authorities provide such centres that are not equipped with lighting or proper fans and have no water service?
I feel a notification should be given for proper tables and working fans and the government should seriously pay attention to the frequent power cuts so students should take exams in a proper environment.
