The rich in Pakistan

Letter May 16, 2011
Being rich is a not a crime if one pays their fair share of taxes.

KARACHI: Shahid Javed Burki’s article of May 16 titled “How rich are the Pakistani rich?” contains good analysis. The reasons for our skewed income distribution are a faulty tax structure and an inefficient and corrupt tax collection machinery. To make matters worse, certain large sectors of the economy, such as agriculture, are not taxed at all. Being rich is a not a crime if one pays their fair share of taxes.
