The party is now divided into PML-Nawaz and PML-Shehbaz factions
LAHORE: Out of all the possible ways, the PML-N could have chosen to express or to sort out the discord between its pro- and anti-Nawaz campaign, it chose to criticise the provincial government over its action to control the PTM’s demonstration in Lahore. As hard as it is to believe that the Punjab government would take an action against the Pashtun group without getting a nod from the top party leadership, the criticism from Maryam Nawaz and other party leaders strengthens the impression that the party is now divided into PML-Nawaz and PML-Shehbaz factions.
However, where the bashful tweets have addressed the latter as ‘Punjab government’, CM of the province, Shehbaz Sharif has responded to the opponents on the party’s behalf, stating “the PML-N does not believe in the politics of ethnicity.” The statement is yet again an expression of the reconciliatory approach Shehbaz Sharif has been taking for long.
