LAHORE: The forging of academic degrees and credentials has gone beyond a level where it is no longer confined to political figures or the top shots of bureaucratic or civilian institutions. A few years ago, the scandal of fake degrees by a foreign illegal entity shook educational commissions and relevant departments, especially when some of the renowned social and media personalities were found in possession of fake degrees arranged by the same entity.
Now a similar scam has surfaced in Punjab, where many of the MPhil and PhD scholars were found to be holding fake degrees.
Although the federal and provincial education commissions have already sought answers from the relevant authority over the matter, until the provincial education commission develops a strong mechanism and testing system that not only scrutinises the degrees but also takes action against the institutions that award fake degrees, such scams will continue to surface. Further, it will allow the incompetent and undeserving snatch jobs from the deserving ones and ruin the future of our youth.
