Demands for more provinces only to die its natural death once those who become the voice of the demand get their votes
LAHORE: The demand for a separate Seraiki province in Punjab is nothing new. Time and again special interest groups have politicised the issue to please their vote bank. The demands for more provinces on the pretext of better administration through division into more administrative units has always surfaced and resurfaced around a certain political season, only to die its natural death once those who become the voice of the demand get their votes and the representation they need in the legislatures of the country.
The most recent to join the chorus for a separate province yet for a better administration of affairs is the PTI. The party has lent its support to a group of PML-N deserters. Whether the PTI will remain an ardent supporter of the demand for a separate province in Punjab or not will only be unfolded following the upcoming general elections.
