The law must serve the purpose of instigating morality among the masses
ISLAMABAD: Only a few months back, the rape and murder of an eight-year-old girl in Punjab, Pakistan caused a global outcry and tugged the heart-strings of celebrated personalities.
The girl was kidnapped, raped and then brutally killed, her culprit arrested and convicted, and the rest settling as the debris only to be blown once again by another heinous act committed, albeit across the border. However, similar in nature: kidnap, rape and murder.
Possibly even this time around, the sinners will be convicted. But if so then there is certainly something wrong with the basis of the legal conviction process and its structure, as it seems like it only exists to punish the sinners and does nothing to stop them from committing such acts in the first place.
For the law must serve the purpose of instigating morality among the masses, even if it is by means of fear or by force.
