MULTAN: Marriage by freewill or choice is still looked down upon by many sections of society in Pakistan. Families of the couple that exercised their right to marry of their freewill go as far as to kill their own kin for this action.
Despite laws that allow individuals of and above 18 years of age legal protection to enter into a marital relationship with anyone of their choice, couples here are mostly seeking help from the police and courts against their families. Yet many are still pressured into ending their marriage or are often silenced to death.
Alongside the laws protecting the legality of marriage between two individuals, the families or the persons related to the two should also be held accountable if they resort to intimidating the couple or become a threat to their lives.
